In diesem Jahr erobern wieder über 4.400 Karnevalsakteur*innen in 74 Gruppen den öffentlichen Raum ihrer Stadt und zeigen die kulturelle Vielfalt Berlins. Künstlerisch und kreativ widmen sie sich den aktuell politischen und gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen. Dabei stehen neben Tanz, Gesang und einzigartigen Kostümen der Schutz der Arten und der Natur, bedrohte Völker und Kulturen und die gemeinsame Verantwortung für die Gesellschaft, in der wir leben, im Fokus. 23 Gruppen bestreiten den Straßenumzug diesmal ohne Motor-fahrzeug. 12 neue Gruppen, darunter Persische Tänze, Chorverband Berlin e.V. und 50 Jahre GRIPS Theatererweitern den kulturellen Radius des Karnevals.Das Straßenfest vom 07. bis 10. Juni 2019 Eine Reise durch die Länder und Kontinente bietet das Straßenfest mit den drei großen Bühnen Latinauta, Black Atlantica und East2West und zehn kleinen Musik-Corners. Es gibt viel zu entdecken an über 300 Ständen mit Produkten aus aller Welt, während die Besucher*innen auf einer Welle aus Global Beats von Latin Sounds über Afropop bis Balkan, Humppa, Chanson und Electronic Trance weitergetragen werden. Der Rasen in Aktion lädt Kinder und Erwachsene mit Theater, Performances und Workshops zum Mitmachen ein.

Der Karneval der Kulturen gehört ins Herz der Stadt! Nirgendwo sonst hätte sich diese besondere Veranstaltung zu einem international anerkannten Fest der multikulturellen Vielfalt entwickeln können. Doch bedeutet solch eine Veranstaltung mit vielen Besucher*innen und Akteur*inn en neben Lebenslust und Freude auch eine Belastung für die Umwelt und unseren Heimatkiez. Die Veranstalter arbeiten daran, diesen negativen Effekt Schritt für Schritt zu reduzieren und die Veranstaltung so nachhaltig und achtsam wie möglich zu produzieren, damit es ein Fest für alle Beteiligten bleibt.

Mehr Achtsamkeit
Die Veranstalter*innen wollen gemeinsam mit den Akteur*innen die Besucher*innen für die Bedürfnisse der Anwohner*innen sensibilisieren, um während der Festtage weniger Lärm und Müll zu produzieren. Im Aufstellungsbereich der Gruppen sollen die Soundchecks nur noch max. 15 min lang sein. Die Veranstalter*innen stimmen sich eng mit Polizei und Feuerwehr ab, insbesondere wenn es um Fragen des Grundschutzes der Anlieger und der Verhinderung von groben Belästigungen geht. Das Bezirksamt genehmigt im Vorfeld keine weiteren Veranstaltungen im Umfeld.

Verantwortung übernehmen
Der Karneval ist offen für alle. Das heißt aber auch, dass jede/r, die/der mitmacht, auch Verantwortung trägt. Den Akteur*innen des Karnevals ist es nicht egal, wie sich die Besucher*innen verhalten, die sich den Gruppen im Umzug anschließen. Besonders große Gruppen und Soundsystems sind dazu aufgerufen, unsoziales Verhalten in der Umgebung ihres Wagens zu identifizieren und anzusprechen. Es wird daran erinnert, aufeinander zu achten, weniger Alkohol zu trinken und Müll ordnungsgemäß zu entsorgen, wofür die Anzahl der Behälter verdreifacht wurde. Während des Umzugs soll en angespannte Situationen mit angepasster Musik beruhigt werden. Ein Verstoß gegen diese Verhaltensregeln kann den Ausschluss der betreffenden Gruppe bedeuten.

Weniger Motoren
Perspektivisch sollen so viele Umzugsfahrzeuge wie möglich ohne Motor eingesetzt werden. Dafür wurden Workshops unter Beteiligung der Karnevalsgruppen und der technischen Leitung durchgeführt. Für Transporte auf dem Fest werden Lastenräder unseres neuen Partners fLotte eingesetzt. Auch die Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe tragen dazu bei, die Veranstaltung nachhaltig zu machen; um möglichst vielen Besuchern eine Anreise mit dem ÖPNV zu ermöglichen, werden z. B. mehr und längere Züge eingesetzt.

Der Grüne Bereich wird zu „Shanti Town“! Mitten im Festgebiet wird ein Aktionscamp gegen Rassismus und Krieg, für Vielfalt, Nachhaltigkeit und Verantwortung errichtet. „Shanti” bedeutet Frieden, Ruhe und Wohl-ergehen und ist Programm. Künstler*innen, Vereine und Initiativen geben dieser Haltung mit Filmprojektionen, einem Umsonstladen, Komposttoiletten, Workshops, Plakatdruck und anderen Mitmach-Aktionen Ausdruck.Die zwei Musik-Corners „Hallischer Forst“ und „Liegender Teppich“ bieten Tanzaufführungen, Diskussionen, Zirkus, Theater, Performances, Liedermacher*innen, Soundtüftler*innen, Bands und Global Dance Beats.
