KOSMETIKA UND KÖRPERPFLEGE

Mikroplastik zur größeren Schmierfähigkeit: Um besser zu haften oder nicht davon zu fließen, werden Bodylotions, Hand-/ Sonnen-/ Gesichtscremes, Duschgels, Shampoos und Handseifen mit Flüssigpolymeren angereichert. Zusätzlich sorgt u.a. Mikroplastik als Filmbildner für Glanz und Geschmeidigkeit.
Zahnpasta enthält oft kleinste Plastikpartikel für seine Schmirgelfunktion.
Peelings weisen häufig Mikroplastik als Schleifkörper zur Entfernung von Hautschuppen auf.
Lippenstifte, Lidschatten und Puder sollen mit Mikroplastikbestandteilen als Bindemittel kompakter sein.
(Wasserfester) Mascara ist fast immer mit Flüssigkunststoffen angereichert.
Nagellack ist, wie die meisten Farben und Lacke, mit Mikroplastik versetzt, damit sie dickflüssiger und widerstandsfähiger sind.
Feuchttücher sind nicht etwa wie oft geglaubt aus Zellulose-Tuch hergestellt, sondern häufig aus einem Polyester-Viskose-Mix.

REINIGUNGS- UND PUTZMITTEL

Reinigungs- und Putzmittel wie z.B. Toilettenreiniger sind mit Flüssigkunststoffen bzw. gelartigen Cross-Polymeren angereichert.
Speziell für kratzempfindliche Oberflächen werden in Glaskeramik- und Kochfeldreinigern milde schleifende Mikroplastikpartikel eingesetzt.
In Waschmittel und Weichspüler verstecken sich ebenfalls häufig wasserlösliche Polymere und Mikroplastik.

HAUSHALT UND ALLTÄGLICHES

Minen von Blei- und Buntstiften werden zum Zwecke der Bruchfestigkeit mit einer hauchdünnen Kunststoff-Ummantelung versehen.
Zigarettenfilter basieren auf Zellulose-Acetat, einem so genannten „Bioplastik“, dessen Zersetzung lange dauert oder nicht einmal zu 100% gewährleistet ist.
Backpapier sollte eher ‚Backplastik‘ heißen, denn es hat eine Anti-Haft-Kunststoffbeschichtung aus Silikon, die in billigeren Mixturen sogar noch Chromsalze enthält.
In Kissen- und Sitzmöbel-Polstern werden heutzutage oft Kunstfasern oder Schaumstoffe verwendet, wobei typische Matratzenfüllungen aus Polyurethan schwer zu recyceln bzw. zu entsorgen sind und sogar eine Verbrennung sehr energieaufwändig ist.
Tampons werden oft mit einer dünnen Plastik-Beschichtung versehen, um Komfort beim Ein- und Ausführen zu gewährleisten und auch das Rückholbändchen besteht aus synthetischen Fasern. Der Tampon gibt im Körper das Plastik ab.
Glitzer besteht in der Regel aus Kunststoff oder aus Kunststoff beschichtetem Aluminium.

TEXTILIEN

Polyester, Polyamid, Polyacryl in Stoffen sind zu neuen Klassikern geworden und täuschen gerne Naturfaseroptik und -haptik vor. Mit jedem Waschgang gelangen schädliche Mikrofasern über das Abwasser in die Umwelt und zurück in das Trinkwassersystem.
Speziell das Nähgarn wird zum größten Teil aus Polyester hergestellt und versteckt sich somit in fast jedem Kleidungsstück, sogar in zertifizierten Produkten mit der Aussage „100 % Baumwolle“. Lycra, Spandex und Elasthan bestehen größtenteils aus Polyurethan und werden aufgrund ihrer hohen Elastizität und guten Färbbarkeit in Verbindung mit anderen Fasern für dehnbare Gewebe wie Strümpfe, Bade-, Unterwäsche- und Sportbekleidung eingesetzt.

FOOD UND LEBENSMITTELVERPACKUNGEN

Brauereien schütten bei der Herstellung von Bier vorübergehend das Kunststoffgranulat Polyvinylpolypyrrolidon (PVPP) in das Bier, damit es länger klar bleibt – Rückstände könnten sogar erhalten bleiben.
90 % der Tafelsalze weltweit enthalten bereits nachgewiesen Mikroplastik.
In Wurst, Käse, Oliven, Nüssen, Schokolade u.v.m. verbergen sich Plastikanteile. Laut EU-Kunststoffverordnung darf jede Kunststoffverpackung auf das eingepackte Lebensmittel – je nach Dicke der Verpackung – bis zu 10% der Plastikverpackung auf das Lebensmittel übertragen. Mediziner vermuten verheerende gesundheitliche Folgen.
In Wurst-, Käse- und Backwarenpapier ist für dem Frischhalteschutze eine dünne Plastikschicht eingearbeitet.
Mikroplastik konnte in 80% von Mineral- und Leitungswasserproben nachgewiesen werden.
Die Kaumasse in Kaugummis ist meistens aus einer Polymer-Basis, bestehen also aus synthetischem Gummi.
Lebensmittel- und vor allem Tiefkühlverpackungen sind zum Frischhalte-, Fett- und Feuchtigkeitsschutz mit einem Plastikfilm überzogen bzw. mit einer dünnen Plastikschicht aufgebaut und können daher nicht im Papiermüll recycelt werden.
Konservendosen wie auch Getränkedosen haben eine Innenbeschichtung aus dem Kunststoff Epoxidharz, die als Korrosionsschutz dient, aber auch Schadstoffe wie Bisphenol A, welches für Babys bereits verboten ist, enthalten und freisetzen können.
Metall-Schraubdeckel für Glasflaschen sowie Kronkorken sehen wie Metall aus, kommen innen aber nicht ohne Plastikabdichtung aus.
Kaffeefilter und Teebeutel werden mit Nassfestmitteln aus Kunststoffen angereichert, um die Festigkeit des Zellstoffs zu erhöhen. Teebeutel werden außerdem oft mit Polyethylen heißversiegelt, also zusätzlich zum Fadenverschluss mit Klebstoff verschlossen. Die Plastikbestandteile können so in den Tee migrieren.
TetraPak, Saftverpackungen & Co bestehen aus einem Kartonverbund, d.h. sie sind mehrmals verklebt, enthalten außer Aluminium und Karton auch vier Schichten Plastik.
Mischkunststoffe kommen u.a. bei Chips-Tüten zum Einsatz, diese sind nur schlecht bis gar nicht recycelbar.

PAPIER UND PAPPE

Etiketten und Aufkleber auf z.B. Äpfeln oder anderen Produkten sind mit Klebstoffen, also Plastik, versehen.
90% aller verwendeten Klebstoffe in der Verpackungsindustrie enthalten Kunststoffe.
Verpackungen aus Pappe werden häufig mit Klebestreifen verklebt und/oder verschlossen, welche im Recycling nicht entfernt werden können und damit weitere Recyclingprodukte kontaminieren. Recyclingpapier und -karton ist je nach Reinheitsgrad in Abhängigkeit vom jeweiligen Recyclingprozess von 0,3 % bis zu zweistelliger Prozentzahl mit Kunststoffresten aus dem Altpapier verunreinigt.
Besonders hochwertiges, glänzendes und glattes Papier wird häufig mit einer Folierung bzw. mit Kunststoff-Bestandteilen optimiert.
Kassenzettel sind aus Thermopapier, also einem wärmeempfindlichen Mehrkomponenten-Papier mit Kunststoffschicht und sind daher nicht recyclebar, sondern gehören in den Restmüll.
Toiletten- und Küchenpapiere sind zunehmend mit kleinsten Plastikrückständen kontaminiert, insbesondere billig recycelte Papiere.
