Am Sonnabend, den 17. Juni, kurz vor dem längsten Tag des Jahres, heißt es überall in Deutschland: Tische und Stühle raus und schön eindecken! Freundinnen, Freunde, Nachbarn einladen, essen, debattieren, feiern und gemeinsam zeigen, welches Land Deutschland sein will und kann. Zeitgleich überall im Land, auf Dorfangern und Rathausmärkten, Fußballplätzen und Dachterrassen, Plätzen und Bürgersteigen, in Stadtparks und Hinterhöfen – ein international sichtbares Zeichen für das Engagement der Bürgergesellschaft, für gelebte Offenheit, Gastfreundschaft, Großzügigkeit, Vielfalt und Liberalität.

„Unsere Gesellschaft hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren polarisiert, vielerorts entfremdet“, so Ulrich Lilie, Präsident der Diakonie. „Die Idee der Tafel steht für das
Gegenteil, für den Austausch, die konstruktive Diskussion, die Gastfreundschaft und den Zusammenhalt. Mit allen Menschen guten Willens setzen wir ein starkes Zeichen der Bürgergesellschaft.“ Harald Welzer, Mitbegründer der Initiative Offene Gesellschaft in Berlin, sagt: „Man muss für die Demokratie eintreten, solange sie existiert. Hinterher wird es erheblich schwieriger.“

Die Initiative Offene Gesellschaft bietet online Hilfestellung und durch die Anmeldung der Tafeln wird eine Übersicht zu allen mitmachenden Orten, Stadtteilen, Organisationen, Unternehmen, Vereinen, etc. entstehen. Viele Vertreter aus Unternehmen, Institutionen, NGOs und aus Kultur und Medien haben sich dem Aufruf bereits angeschlossen. Start ist am 17. Juni 2017 ab 17 Uhr – das Fest geht open end, genau wie die Freiheit und die Demokratie.
