Das Festival „Tanz im August“ für zeitgenössischen Tanz und Performance ist das größte Treffen des Tanztheaters.

Die Besucher von „Tanz im August“ können bei zahlreichen Welt- und Deutschlandpremieren aktuelle Tendenzen im zeitgenössischen Tanz entdecken. Daneben bringen Publikumsgespräche, Filme, Partys und die neue „Bibliothek im August“ Künstler, Fachleute und Publikum zusammen.

Im Jahr 2018 unter anderem mit dabei sind: Thiago Granato, Silvia Gribaudi, Björn Säfsten, Nora Chipaumire, Maija Hirvanen, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Michiel Vandevelde, Cia Vero Cendoya, Robyn Orlin, Felix Mathias Ott, Alan Lucien Øyen, Voetvolk und Mal Pelo.

Der Kulturverführer Berlin schreibt:

„Das größte jährliche Tanzfest Deutschlands bietet seit 1989 ein breites Spektrum der wichtigsten Künstler und Gruppen des zeitgenössischen Tanzes, aber auch Choreografien experimenteller Newcomer der internationalen Szene. Etliche Stars wie Pina Bausch und Jirí Kyliáns Nederlands Dans Theater, die vielleicht lebendigste Ballettkompanie Europas, gehörten wiederholt zu den Gästen. Das renommierte Tanzfestival ist eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung des Hebbel am Ufer und der Tanzwerkstatt Berlin.“
