Fast ein Jahrhundert lang ignoriert nach dem frühen Tod des Komponisten, werden diese Werke heute als Höhepunkte des romantischen Repertoires gefeiert und stehen in ihrem Ansehen den Klavierwerken des von Schubert bewunderten Zeitgenossen Beethoven in nichts nach. In jedem der vier Konzerte präsentiert Barenboim einen chronologischen Überblick über Schuberts schöpferisches Leben, von Jugendkompositionen bis hin zu den Meisterwerken seiner letzten Jahre.
