Der Deutscher Filmpreis ist die höchst dotierte Auszeichnung für den deutschen Film. Im Rahmen einer großen Gala wird die „Lola“ jedes Jahr in Berlin verliehen.

Die Preisträger des Deutscher Filmpreis werden seit 2006 von den Mitgliedern der Deutschen Filmakademie e.V. gewählt. Filmschaffende aller Berufsgruppen, die sich durch ihre kontinuierliche, kreative Arbeit im deutschen Kinofilm ausgezeichnet haben, bewerten in einem dreistufigen Auswahlverfahren die aktuellen Leistungen ihrer Kollegen. Sie werden dadurch zur größten Fachjury. Damit steht die Entscheidung über den höchstdotierten Kulturpreis, den Deutschland zu vergeben hat, auf breiter und künstlerisch kompetenter Basis.
