Seit ihrer Gründung ist die Komische Oper Berlin das Haus, in dem beide Teile des Wortes Musik-Theater gleich groß geschrieben werden. Ziel sind Produktionen, in denen die verschiedenen Künste nicht um den Vorrang streiten, sondern sich gegenseitig bedingen und alle beteiligten Künstler mit vereinten Kräften auf das gemeinsame Ziel hinarbeiten: jeden Abend lebendiges, zeitgemäßes, spannendes Theater zu bieten.
Auch am Ende einer Spielzeit wird dieses Ziel nicht aus den Augen verloren. Eine Woche lang lädt die Komische Oper dazu ein, die Neuproduktionen der Spielzeit Revue passieren zu lassen. Beim Komische Oper Festival wird dem Besucher ein umfangreiches Rahmenprogramm geboten. So findet vor jeder Vorstellung ein Einführungsvortrag und danach eine Podiumsdiskussion statt.
