Der hundsordinäre Hot Dog geniesst in Berlin einen eher zu vernachlässigenden Ruf und ist den meissten in seiner einfachen Variante bekannt: ein trauriges Wiener Würstchen, das mit Sauergurke, Röstgezwiebele und ordentlich Sauce in einem schlaffen Brötchen steckt. Das soll sich jetzt ändern: Björn Swanson, der jüngst mit einem Guide Michelin-Stern ausgezeichnete Chef des Restaurants GOLVET (www.golvet.de) erfand den Hot Dog im März 2018 im ersten THE DAWG Bikini Berlin quasi neu. Er brachte zusammen, was zuvor nicht zusammen denkbar war – Fast Food aus hochwertigen und frischen Zutaten in ungewöhnlichen Kreationen und Kombinationen. Der Erfolg lässt nicht lange auf sich warten und der „Extraklasse-Hund“ wandert zur nächsten Adresse. Swansons heiße, aber handzahme Hunde mit exotisch-hippen Namen wie „Octopussy“, „Kim Jong“ oder „Porkinator“ haben in einer echten „Erste-Sahne-Adresse“ ein zweites Zuhause gefunden: Seit Mitte September quartieren sie fest im De-Luxe-Hot-Dog-Imbiss THE DAWG in der Filiale in der Mercedes-Benz Gallery Unter den Linden 14, in der ein SMART Pop Up-Showroom temporär eröffnet hat und bis Ende November die neusten Miniflitzer präsentiert.

„Der Siegeszug der DAWGS ist unaufhaltsam. Die Berliner wissen zu schätzen, dass Besseres ins Brötchen passt als die Hot Dogs, die sie für einen Euro im Möbelhaus gewohnt waren“, sagt Björn Swanson selbstbewusst und hat gleich sechs DAWGS als Standards auf der Karte stehen. Ein SPECIAL DAWG, derzeit der WILD DAWG mit Wildschweinwurst und Zwiebelmarmelade, kommt saisonal dazu. Hinter den DAWGS mit den ungewöhnlichen Namen verbergen sich in den verschiedenen hausgebackenen Brötchen mal Oktopus („Octopussy“,), mal Entenwurst oder Kräutersau. Ungewöhnliche Toppings wie Chipotle-Mayonnaise, Fenchelsalat, Koriander oder Wasabi-Nüsse runden die Kreationen ab. Alle DAWGS gibt’s natürlich ebenso in einer vegetarischen Variante mit einer Shiitake-„Wurst“ und natürlich auch als Klassiker für Gewohnheitstiere. Auch Vegetarier können herzhaft in den DAWG BOWLS beißen, der Hummus, Rote Bete, Avocado, Quinoa, Chinakohl, Pflücksalat, Strauchtomaten, Gartengurken, Petersilie und Sesam mit einer fruchtigen Vinaigrette vereint. Getoppt werden sie wahlweise von gebratener Maishähnchenbrust, Lachs, Garnelen oder mariniertem Fetakäse. Außerdem stehen eine Tagessuppe, Gemüsechips und Fun Sized Salads auf der Karte. Aber wem nach nicht ganz so hundehaft „dawgig“ ist, der findet auch Kuchen und Torten in wechselnder Auswahl im Angebot.
