Auch in diesem Jahr lädt das MEK (Museums Europäischer Kulturen – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) wieder zu einer kleinen Reise durch eine historisch geprägte Weihnachtsausstellung. Das MEK verwahrt in seiner Sammlung zahlreiche herausragende Objekte rund um das Weihnachtsfest aus allen Zeiten und Teilen Europas. Höhepunkt ist der mechanische Weihnachtsberg aus dem Erzgebirge, der das ganze Jahr über in der ständigen Sammlungspräsentation zu bestaunen ist. Der im 19. Jahrhundert entstandene Weihnachtsberg führt auf einer Fläche von 15 Quadratmetern mit über 300 Figuren die wichtigsten Stationen aus dem Leben Jesu von der Verkündigung Marias bis zur Passionsgeschichte vor.
Nur zur Advents- und Weihnachtszeit führt der 2017 erstmalig ausgelegte Weihnachtspfad die Besucherinnen und Besucher zu ausgewählten Ausstellungsstücken. So lassen sich u.a. verschiedene Weihnachtskrippen bestaunen, die zeigen, wie unterschiedlich die Heilige Familie in aller Welt dargestellt wurde, während im Foyer der diesjährige Weihnachtsbaum des MEK Anlass bietet, uns bewusst zu machen, was der Christbaum, der grüne Weihnachtsbaum, als Botschafter der Natur für uns bedeutet. Sein Schmuck wählt die Natur als Vorbild.

Auch der aktuelle Bewegungsmelder (ehemals: Das Aktuelle Schaufenster) im MEK-Foyer präsentiert sich weihnachtlich: Unter dem Titel 30 Jahre Mauerfall – Abreiß-Advent ´89 erinnert er an den Mauerfall 1989 und die aufregende Adventszeit damals. Die Maueröffnung gab den Anstoß für einen besonderen Adventskalender, der noch bis zum 2. Februar 2020 zu sehen ist.

Die Weihnachtszeit im MEK endet am Sonntag, den 5. Januar 2019 mit der traditionellen Geschenke-Tauschbörse. Zwischen 11 und 14 Uhr lädt das MEK alle Besucherinnen und Besucher ein, ihre ungeliebten Weihnachtsgeschenke untereinander zu tauschen.
Der Eintritt ins MEK ist für Kinder und Jugendliche bis einschließlich 18 Jahre kostenfrei. Der Eintritt für Erwachsene beträgt 8 €, ermäßigt 4 €.
