Ein neues großes Objekt schmückt seit Kurzem das Eingangsfoyer des Science Center Spectrum in Berlin: ein Gravitationstrichter. An ihm lässt sich auf eindrucksvolle Weise zeigen, wie sich ein Himmelskörper um ein Zentralgestirn dreht. Die Experimentierstation ist ein Geschenk der Freunde und Förderer des Deutschen
Technikmuseums Berlin e.V. Das Science Center Spectrum gehört zur Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin.

Der Gravitationstrichter

Das interaktive Experiment mit dem Namen „Planetenbahn“ veranschaulicht, wie sich zum Beispiel ein Planet um die Sonne bewegt. Eine über eine Rampe eingeworfene Münze – als Planet gedacht – umrundet die untere Öffnung des speziell geformten Trichters. Das Zentrum des Trichters stellt dabei die Sonne dar. Die Bewegung der Münze lässt sich mit der eines Planeten vergleichen: Nähert sich ein Planet auf seiner Umlaufbahn der Sonne, beschleunigt er aufgrund von Gravitation immer mehr und auf einer immer stärker gekrümmten Bahn. Dadurch wirken auf ihn immer größere Fliehkräfte, so dass er sich auf seiner Umlaufbahn wieder weiter von der Sonne entfernt. Vergleichbar wirken auch auf die Münze im Gravitationstrichter bei Annäherung an die untere Trichteröffnung immer größere Fliehkräfte. Auch die Münze kann sich auf ihrer Umlaufbahn wieder weiter von dieser Öffnung entfernen, um sich ihr anschließend wieder zu nähern. Anders als im Weltall tritt im Experiment vor Ort jedoch Reibung auf. Daher kann die Münze ihre Umlaufbahn nicht halten. Auf einer spiralförmigen Bahn fällt sie nach vielen Umrundungen als Spende an den Förderverein durch die untere Trichteröffnung zu Boden.

Das Science Center Spectrum

Das Spectrum ist das traditionsreichste und erste moderne Science Center Deutschlands. Als „Versuchsfeld“ begann es bereits zur Eröffnung des Deutschen Technikmuseums mit seinen Aktivitäten. Heute laden mehr als 150 Experimentierstationen dazu ein, grundlegende Phänomene aus Naturwissenschaft und Technik
selbstständig zu erforschen. Ergänzt wird die bunte Experimentierwelt des Science Centers durch das wissenschaftshistorische Schülerlabor „Meilensteine“ sowie vielfältige weitere Programmangebote.
