Was als Reisebericht beginnt, erweitert sich zu einem »Erweckungserlebnis« und erzählt von einer neuen Sensibilität gegenüber der Spanischen Kunst des Siglo de Oro: Eigentlich als glühender Verehrer des Barockmalers Velázquez angereist, wendet sich Meier-Graefe vehement dem damals nahezu unbekannten El Greco zu. Zur Einführung spricht Prof. Dr. Michael Scholz-Hänsel (Universität Leipzig), Max von Pufendorf liest Ausschnitte aus der »Spanischen Reise«, und der Flamenco-Gitarrist Ulrich Gottwald lässt musikalische Intermezzi erklingen.
