Die Alte Nationalgalerie widmet dem Motiv des Wanderns mit «Wanderlust. Von Caspar David Friedrich bis Auguste Renoir» eine eigene Ausstellung.

Wandern wird im 19. Jahrhundert zu einem zentralen Motiv in der Malerei. Das Wandern stellt dabei sinnbildlich die Erkundung von neuen Wegen dar. Strömungen wie der «Sturm und Drang» und die Naturverbundenheit der Romantik lassen das Wandern populärer werden. Heute steht das Wandern für Entschleunigung. Die Alte Nationalgalerie widmet diesem Thema ab Mai 2018 eine Sonderausstellung.

Ausgangspunkt ist «Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer»

Ausgehend von Caspar David Friedrichs «Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer», einer Leihgabe der Hamburger Kunsthalle, vereint diese Ausstellung um die 100 Werke seit 1800, die das Wandern abbilden. Es wird ersichtlich, dass es sich hierbei um eine globale Faszination handelt, die Werke stammen aus Frankreich, Deutschland, Russland und den USA.
