Pulsierend, anziehend, kreativ, widersprüchlich – das war Berlin im frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Hier lebten und trafen sich eine Vielzahl modern denkender Kunstschaffende. Es war der Aufbruch der Künste, die verschiedenen Sparten inspirierten sich gegenseitig. In dieser Zeit und in diesem Umfeld lebte und arbeitete Georg Kolbe, geboren im Jahr 1877, der zum erfolgreichsten deutschen Bildhauer seiner Generation aufstieg und fast 200 Köpfe kreierte. Vor allem in der Weimarer Republik galt er als wichtiger Porträtist. Eine Auswahl von rund 50 Porträtskulpturen, Zeichnungen, Bilder und historische Materialien zeigt das Georg-Kolbe-Museum noch bis zum 01. Mai 2017. Zum diesjährigen 140. Geburtstag des Künstlers wird sein Netzwerk gefeiert mit Friedrich Ebert, Walther Rathenau, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Vaslav Nijinsky, Walter Gropius, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Theobald von Bethmann Hollweg, Mary Wigman, Henry van de Velde, Paul Cassirer, Harry Graf Kessler, Ferdinand Sauerbruch, Max Liebermann und vielen weiteren.
