Kulturtipp zum 100-jährigen Bauhaus-Jubiläum 2019: die Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung plant zu diesem Jahrhundert-Anlass vier Ausstellungen, die sich explizit mit dem Thema Bauhaus beschäftigen. Als Einstieg in den Bauhaus-Reigen wird vom 12. Januar bis 18. April 2019 die Ausstellung Alfred Ehrhardt – Malerei, Zeichnung, Grafik gezeigt, die Ehrhardt nicht als Fotografen, sondern als Grafiker und Maler präsentiert. Insbesondere nimmt sie das bildnerische Werk seiner Bauhauszeit in den Fokus, das nach einer Einzelausstellung im Dessauer Meisterhaus Schlemmer 2007 nun erstmals auch in Berlin zu sehen ist.

Während seines Aufenthalts am Dessauer Bauhaus im Wintersemester 1928/29 verkehrte Alfred Ehrhardt im Dunstkreis der Bauhaus-Größen wie Josef Albers, Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee und Lyonel Feininger, die sein künstlerisches Werk wie auch seine spätere Lehrtätigkeit maßgeblich beeinflussten.

Seine in Tempera auf Masonit entstandenen abstrakten Kompositionen verdeutlichen ein »Materialempfinden«, welches Ehrhardt durch ein gezieltes Studium der Erscheinungsformen und Gesetzmäßigkeiten der Natur schulte, wie es am Bauhaus gelehrt wurde. Seine Bilder gestaltet er mittels verschiedener Werkzeuge wie Spachtel oder Pinselstiel, wobei er die Struktur des Malgrundes mit einbezieht, so dass ein Zusammenspiel aus filigranen Liniengerüsten und pastosen Farbflächen entsteht. Nur vereinzelt lässt sich in seinen gemalten Collagen aus den geometrischen Elementen eine konkrete Figuration ausmachen, etwa eine an Klee erinnernde stehende Figur oder eine kosmische Landschaft im Stile Kandinskys. Zudem zeigt die Ausstellung eine Reihe von druckgrafischen Arbeiten und Zeichnungen, in denen Ehrhardt unter anderem auf seinen Fundus an reduzierten Tiermotiven zurückgreift. Stark vereinfacht sind auch seine Einlinienzeichnungen, wie beispielsweise die einer weiblichen Figur oder eines Kopfes.

Seine Kunst- und Lehrerfahrungen fasste Ehrhardt in dem Buch Gestaltungslehre (1932) zusammen, in dem er besonders die Bedeutung des Materials als »lebendige, ausdrucksvolle Gegebenheit (…) im Sinne der Organik, d. h. im Sinne des Schöpferischen« betont.

Bereits 1931 war sein künstlerisches Werk in einer Einzelausstellung des Hamburger Kunstvereins zu sehen – die einzige Gemälde-Ausstellung zu Lebzeiten, bevor er bedingt durch die Entlassung aus dem Hochschuldienst durch die Nationalsozialisten zur Fotografie und zum Film wechselte. Das etwa 120 Gemälde, Zeichnungen und Druckgrafiken umfassende Oeuvre wurde der Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung übertragen und befindet sich teilweise noch heute im Verwahrsam der Familie. Die Ausstellung Alfred Ehrhardt – Malerei, Zeichnung, Grafik bietet somit einen seltenen Einblick in das der Öffentlichkeit ansonsten unzugängliche malerische und grafische Genre Ehrhardts.

Die Vernissage findet am Freitag, 11. Januar 2019 von 19-21 Uhr statt.
