Die einzelnen Stationen ermöglichen, sich dem komplexen Thema auf unterschiedliche Weise zu nähern: über das Spiel, über visuelle Animation, über künstlerische Aktivitäten. Vorgestellt werden Märchen, Mythen und Spiele, die den Menschen in allen Zeiten und im Alltag helfen, das Leben und den Tod zu erklären. Themen wie Alter, Zeit und Vergangenheit werden thematisiert, spielerisch und anschaulich.

Kinder kommen in Kontakt mit fremden Kulturen

Fremde Bräuche, Todes- und Jenseitsvorstellungen verschiedener Epochen und Kulturen zeigen exemplarisch Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten, wie Menschen mit dem Tod umgehen und wie sie sich das Jenseits vorstellen. Die Kinder werden anhand dargestellter fremder Kulturen dazu ermutigt, die eigenen Vorstellungen und „unsere Rituale“ zum Tod zu hinterfragen. Sie dürfen Fragen stellen, Berührungsängste abbauen und sich ungewohnten Gedankengängen öffnen.

Mit mehr als 200.000 Besuchern gilt die Ausstellung als die bekannteste Kinderausstellung im deutschsprachigen Raum der letzten Jahre. Nach 20 Stationen der Wanderausstellung kehrt sie nun knapp fünf Jahre später nach Berlin zurück. Highlight ist eine Leihgabe des Museums für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, eine Rekonstruktion des Grabes eines Mannes aus dem 6. Jahrhundert.
